Well, last week, I got ahold of HR at AECL again to make sure they had yet another copy of my resume. I also found a job to apply to at Bubble Technologies which I believe is a spin-off of AECL so I'm crossing my fingers that something will come up soon, although I'm trying to make use and take advantage of all my free time.
In the meantime, I worked on sanding and staining the 4 tables Jeremy had put together the
other weekend. I got them all sanded and stained. We just want to put a clear coat on now and they'll be done, but here's what they look like. I'm impressed they look so good. The stain came out a little more yellow than we hoped. We're on to making a much needed bookcase now, though we've admitted this bookcase is going to be the last woodworking project for a little bit as it's turning out to be more expensive than we hoped, but Jeremy's following a pattern in one of the woodworking books he has. He's decided this will be this winter's hobby as he won't be able to hunt this year....
Saturday eve Jeremy went to Pembroke to challenge the firearm safety test. He needs to pass the test or take the class in order to register his firearms within a certain amount of time and the classes were full so this was his chance. Thankfully, he put his time in and studied the firearm book he bought and took a practice test over and over he found online. Turned out he did pass the writen and practical part (he was a bit concerned on the practical since the guy said most people don't pass this part). And, he accidently ended up taking the hand-gun writen test instead of the regular firearm test, but he opted not to do the practical since he has no hand-guns and doesn't foresee owning any - at least not now. I believe the guy is sending the test to Ottawa so they can register he took it and once that goes thru, he can then register his guns. But, in order to hunt, he needs to take the hunting class which he's not allowed to take for x# of months (which puts him into next year). He could do all this as non-resident, but it's a lot more expensive so he'll wait until we have our permanent residency.
Sat we also went and checked out the Civic Center, aka hockey rink. Didn't learn too much, but at least we got to see it. It's connected to the public library which we'll have to check out some time since it was closed. We learned we can check out movies though as we've come to watching a lot of movies - especially during the winter months.
Sunday we went to explore a small no-name lake on the Quebec side up
and then walked around some of the other trails at the top to some neat overlooks of the river. We tried to get around a rocky point to see if we could see the lab better, but there weren't any rocky ledges on that side so we took a few pictures thru the trees. We decided to head up river just briefly to get around the point to get a better view of AECL before heading back since we weren't sure how much extra gas we'd have.
