We went out Tues night! Jeremy befriended someone at work who lives in town. He's about our same age and playes hockey too. This is how Jeremy got started on his Wed night league. We met him and his girlfriend and two other guys at Kelsey's for wings (no, I didn't eat any). Kelsey's is practically the only restaurant in town, though I realized there is another restaurant around the corner and a few small pizza places, but they aren't nearly as popular. It's a "sports bar" restaurant and usually appears busy every time we've been by. Since they had already ordered and everything had meat in it, I just had a beer and Jeremy just ate dinner before we left, so he wasn't hungry either, but this is definitely a place we'll have to go back and try again. The other two guys work at Bubble(one of the places I sent my resume to) and the guy Jeremy knew had recently worked at Bubble, but now works for AECL. They all seem like a fun bunch and we'll have to make plans to hang out again.
Besides our biggest social event in the last month, we also learned there's a running club in town that meets a block from Kelsey's and next to the grocery store. We stopped into the store, GearHeads, and I asked about it. Apparently, it's fizzled out, but they're hoping to get it back up and running this month so they told me to keep checking the website. It now says they meet Wed and Sat, but this must be an old posting. I still feel so out of shape, but hopefully it'll get better. I'm finally feeling really good for about a block here and there, but I've got a long way to go yet. I'm hoping I can build a small base thru Dec and then look into a marathon next spring/summer. I've heard there's a marathon in Ottawa in May so that might be something to shoot for. Anyone interested to come visit and run?
We've started going for walks in the evenings as Jeremy's finding hockey a little more difficult lately and is feeling the need to think about getting in shape. We can also get a membership to join the military's fitness and sports facilities, recreational programs and classes and all their clubs. I can't even begin to list examples since there are so many. We'll have to look into this more once we are a little more financially stable.
