Correy Lake

Another week has past and we finished up the bookshelf (we've decided to leave it unstained right now until we decide what stain we want) and got the books in it. We still have 5 boxes of Jeremy's school books and notes sitting here yet and 5 small boxes with all our important documents I'd like to clean up too. It makes this little computer room much nicer and roomier without so many boxes sitting here. I also reorganized a few other things too. We decided to take the trim off the top of the bookshelf since the wood doesn't match very well. We can always add this again at a later time if we want.

I found a nice path thru a wooded section behind us to the library which turned out to be a perfect 20 min run the day Jeremy left his truck for me, but no keys. Jeremy had training all week in Deep River and car pooled with Lee a few times. Thankfully, on Thurs he managed to leave a set of keys for me to his truck. I had to take advantage of this opportunity and took Hayde to the Petawawa Terrace Provincial Park about 10 min away for a run/walk. We ended up spending about an hr here running thru the paths and went down to the marshy area where we scared up 3 ducks! Wow, a duck! On the way back to the car, Hayde flushed a grouse and had tons of fun sniffing it out again for the next 15 min. I had a hard time pulling her away from the area to head back to the car.

Friday, Jeremy came home really early and we decided we should run into Pembroke and see about getting our drivers licenses changed and getting his trailer/truck registered. We had luck with our licenses. They confiscated our WI license and gave us a temporary ON paper license. Our card should come in the mail in the next 2-3 weeks. We learned that you can NOT smile for any Canadian photo IDs. Jeremy got away without having to wear glasses/contacts for driving, though it was a bit close. We then drove to the vehicle registration place. They have different offices for licensing/testing and registration. What a thought! We had no wait for our license and just 3 people in front of us for the vehicle registration. Turned out we weren't so lucky at the vehicle registration. They needed a piece of paper we should have gotten at the Canadian Customs, but we didn't know what they were talking about. Finally after asking and asking, we figured out it was something we got that was with our itemized list of all our goods we brought with and not specific to Jeremy's truck/trailer. We also didn't have a sales slip for his trailer. We came home and found these things and decided to try it again Sat morning. We managed to get his trailer licensed and now have an Ontario plate for that. However, it turns out his truck needs to pass inspection. Uh-oh. And, he needs to have it insured thru Ontario and not thru the US before they'll license it. What a pain! We stopped at Canadian Tire and set up an appointment for the safety inspection next weekend. We'll have to see what this costs! Jeremy knows it's not going to pass, but will it pass on any of the things they inspect? We shall see.

Before heading home, we decided to stop across the street from the mall at U-Brew. This is a wine/beer making place where you can purchase equipment. Jeremy's mom's neighbor makes wine and it's really tasty so we got the receipe and have wanted to try making our own wine. We wanted to check this place out. It looks like we can get a starters equipment kit for about $65 and each wine kit is on average $55. For an extra fee, we could make the wine at this place, but it's free to do at home. Each wine kit makes about 30 bottles of wine. Wow! That's a lot, especially if it doesn't turn out right or we don't end up liking the flavor, but when it comes down to the price per bottle, it's only a few dollars so it's not too bad. It should take about a month for the wine to be processed. They sell some beer kits too, but the owner only makes wine.

After our excursion into Pembroke yesterday, we decided to take the boat out to Correy Lake, just outside of Chalk River since it was so nice and warm out. The landing is pretty shallow, but with me in the water(yes, it was pretty cold) we managed to get the boat in and out. We putted up the lake, found a house we had seen for sale prior to moving, and found a stream at the other end. This stream was wide enough and just deep enough for us to make an attempt at going up it. We're still amazed we don't see more wildlife out here. I was amazed at how quiet it was. There weren't many song birds or critters. We did see one turtle sunning itself. On the way back, we scared up a wood duck, but didn't get to see it. Not too far from the next lake, we came across a bridge we weren't sure we could get under so we turned around and headed back. It was late afternoon and the sun was going to head below the trees anyway. We saw a couple canoeing, a couple kayaking and a boat fishing, but otherwise, the lake was empty.

Oh, looks like the hockey season is officially here!
