Heat Please
After a few cooler days and without the house warming up by the end of the afternoon much past 63 (most of you would probably agree this is cool, but growing up in a house set at 64 I guess it's not too bad), we finally realized we aren't getting much heat. The air blowing out of the vents is always cool so that tipped us off. Our landlord finally stopped by and he looked at it with the guy renovating the basement and they couldn't figure it out. Yesterday, they brought someone in to replace the hot water heater so he checked it out. I think it just needs to be re-lite, but for whatever reason, they couldn't do it yesterday, so someone should be coming tomorrow afternoon. Good thing, cause it's getting cool out again. We should have highs in the 40's this weekend, but sunny. So, in the meantime, I'm sitting here with my little oil heater going. Thankfully I had invested in this in Madison when my conceret apartment could hardly get over 60 the entire winter.
We're still trying to get out on our evening walks. However, if we wait a little too long now, we end up going out in the dark. It's dark now by 7:00 pm. Tuesday night we got a late start and Jeremy wanted to go to the library to find a new audio book so I took him on the path thru the woods...in the dark. Thankfully, I grabbed a head light, otherwise there'd be no way we could have found our way. I managed to try the receipe for soft pretzels. I'd have to say they turned out pretty well, since they're more than half gone by now. I also tried a receipe for whole wheat bread yesterday and that turned out pretty well too. I'm thinking I'm going to have to start playing around with cooking/baking since I'm starting to run out of other projects. Jeremy made his beef jerkey too and from how much he's been eating of it, I think he's enjoying that. He did comment that he still likes goose jerkey is the best. We've been talking about making a trip to Ottawa sometime - maybe staying for a night. We heard there's a game farm in that area and if he can manage to hunt there, that would be an option since he won't beable to get into the woods this fall. He put up a map of southern Ontario and labeling where all the game farms are, but most are in the southern part between Detroit and north of Toronto (probably a good 5-6 or more hrs away). I called and found out there aren't any licensed game farms in our county. In the meantime, he'll have to stick to store bought meat. Oh, Ottawa is the only place nearby that he can get Sundrop too...
