We managed to get out fishing for the first time this season yesterday! We took the canoe up to Bissett Creek area and paddled back into one of the lakes. We were hoping to catch some trout, but the water must be too warm already or we didn't get there early enough in the day. Either way, we did manage to pull in some bass at least. And, we made it to the jeep right before the rain started.
Today, I did my run(13.5 miles), only took Hayde with me for 4 miles since it's getting warmer, and Jeremy headed off to Home Depot again. We finally figure out we have maple cabinets and maple just happens to be the worst wood to try to stain. It doesn't take it well and leaves lots of blotches and dark spots. It also tends to stain orange. So, he found some maple pieces and picked up a whole bunch of small cans of anything he could find. It looks like if we put a layer of something on first before staining, the stain will go on smoother. We're trying different stuff. We'll see. So, we spent the rest of the day in the yard working. We hit up the nursery and picked up plants for the plant boxes by the deck and shed and a few for some pots. We also picked up a whole bunch of peppers and a few tomatoes and we got them all planted. Jeremy even got the lawn mower started and did the yard. With the rain and sun the grass took off in the last few days. The tulips are mostly done, so I cleaned up some of the early dead flowers. More and more plants are coming up - it's exciting. I even got a few patches of grass seed down where the grass is really thin. Jeremy also picked up a hammock stand since I had gotten him a hammock for Christmas and he tried it out for a bit. We have baby birds in the soffit of the shed right next to the door. I keep hearing them chrip when I go in and out.
