PowerBlocks

I don't have too much to say - our life is all work, exercise and eating right now.  Not overly exciting.  Our diet is going well.  I think our bodies are starting to adapt to the high protein low carb diet.  Our workouts/running/hockey aren't necessarily getting easier, but I don't think we're feeling quite as tired out as we were the first week.  After talking to Annalisa a little bit about the diet, she's confirmed it's not a bad idea.  It's training our bodies to be more efficient at burning fat as fuel instead of the normal "easy" carbs and sugars.  Makes sense as we've evolved from gatherers and hunters eating meat and plants.  I'm guessing I'm a bit more aclimated since I've been doing such long distance running for some time now....those training runs are also meant to train the body to be more fuel efficient at burning fat.  I've since added in a bagel between my runs and my P90X workouts to add just a little bit more carbs.  We're weighing ourselves each week as well so we can see if we're still getting the right calories.  I lost a 1/2 lb last week, but this week gained it back, so essentially I'm staying exactly on target.  :)  Mom, you'll be happy to hear that!  I'm about to start making some more soup.  Most things have been pretty good.  We alter the menu just a bit sometimes but essentially keep to it.  I had an easy run this weekend - only 10km. Next weekend, I'm pushing it back up - 19km/12mi. We'll see how that goes. Two more weeks on our high protein diet then we start adding some more carbs back in - thankfully as I'll be pushing my mileage. I'm being very conscious about it so if I need to add more carbs in I will. I can't afford to burn myself out....especially if I'm looking at the my first 56km in July!

In the meantime, Jeremy made a trip to Ottawa on Friday  to drop off his visa appliction for his trip to China in a few weeks.  He made a few quick stops on his way back and picked me up my own set of PowerBlocks!  Those are the combo free weights.  We have a set that goes from about 5lbs to 90lbs or something, but he realized they make a mini version(for women) and got me a set.  I'm so excited.  They're much easier for me to use and aren't so big and bulky.  Mine go from 3lbs to 21lbs(the add-on goes up to 33lbs).  Plus, mine go up in 1lb increments instead of 2lb increments our other set goes up.  He also picked each of us up a yoga mat so we don't have to do the floor exercises on the hard floor.  So much better!

Other than that, we had a warmish week.  Got up close to freezing!  However, the weekend cooled way down again....just over 0F.  Brrr... I think it's supposed to warm up a bit for the week.  We're all hoping for some warmer weather to finally stick around.  Hopefully another month of snow.....and not more.
