Big Exciting News

We've had an exciting start to our weekend so far. As I've mentioned in previous posts, we've been trying to figure out what to do for our living situation since our landlord sold the house we are currently living in. After only seeing a couple of adds for places to rent and after viewing only four in the last month and a half, and not finding anything that was suitable in terms of space or rent, we decided to look into buying a house. After talking to a mortgage broker, it appeared, with some help, that we might be able to do this so we started seriously looking online for houses within a reasonable price range. Basically, we were looking for a roof over our heads and something we didn't have to do much to, and something that would be resellable within a year or so in case we opted not to stay here in Ontario. We didn't want anything too complicated. So, Monday we looked at three houses and decided two were of interest to us. We also ended up looking at two more houses at a slightly higher price range on Tuesday and decided one of those two were reasonable, however, it was rather small. So, we thought about it for a day and then decided to take another look at the three houses again on Thursday and decided to rule out one more - the small one. We just couldn't see how we could fit all our stuff in it, even though it was a really cute house that was redone about a year ago, with a two-car garage and nice yard. So, Friday, after some more thought and how realistic our options were, we headed to the realtor and decided to put an offer in on the very first house we viewed on Monday. Our realtor presented it to the seller's realtor and later that evening we got a call while we were out on the river fishing. It was appearing the seller didn't want to budge from his price, but he was going to meet with his realtor at 9pm. So, soon after we got his counter offer - and yes, he did not budge from his price, but was willing to include all the appliances. So, we went back to the computer and looked to see if there might be any other houses. We really didn't want to pay that much, but our options were running out and we didn't want to pass anything up, just to find nothing later.
We did find one other house, but after talking to the realtor, found out it was not a good house so we were back to the original one - whether to accept or not. We talked it through again and decided it was our only realistic option and decided to accept the offer. So, Saturday morning, we went in and signed the counter offer and are currently waiting to make sure our financing will go though. I'll have to make some calls tomorrow to get a house inspector, find a lawyer for closing and call to get house insurance. We agreed to the sellers proposed closing at the end of September, so in 2-1/2 months, we should be good to move into our new house!!!!
We are excited about it as it has a lot of really nice characteristics. It's a single floor layout with a very nice back entry way/laundry room. Jeremy can dump all his hockey, hunting, fishing stuff in here or dump it right in the washing machine instead of dumping it on the floor right inside the door! It also has a nice 1.5 car garage with an attached extra shed space at the back. TONS of room for stuff! It also has a decent size kitchen, however, this was the only hangup in our interest of the house. It doesn't have much counter space and we don't know how or where we can do something to add counter space. It does have lots and lots of cabinet space. All over the house, there are closets or storage space. The bedrooms are smaller, but I don't think that'll be a problem - we don't spend much time in there anyway. It is a three bedroom house so we'll have space for any visitors...hint hint hint...and a place to put the three beds we have. The yard is nice and wraps around the house and it's a little more of a rustic yard even for being in the middle of town. There's a nice size deck in the back as well and we're excited about having our own space to put a garden!
For additional pictures and movies, I posted some to my webshots site:

The first 18 pictures are of the one we went with and the other pictures are of the other two houses we looked at.

After signing all the paper work, we came back home to decide what else we wanted to do for the rest of the day. We ended up going into Pembroke to watch Harry Potter and picked up some more fishing stuff and leaches. Later in the evening we took the boat, with the new truck, down to the river for some fishing. We were successful. Jeremy got a small small-mouth bass, a couple of three walleye, a 12", a 13" and an 18"!!!!!! YA! I got one good sized small-mouth. Of course, we kept the walleye and Jeremy cooked them up for breakfast. He had picked up a potato cutter the other week and he's been making homemade hash browns. yum!!!!!

We're about to head out to Corry Lake for some fishing today and hopefully the sun will come out so we can play in the water with Hayde after near the boat landing. Later tonight we've joined a softball league since a lot of the players have been posted elsewhere and new people are needed.
