Truck Finally Licensed

It's been another whirlwind of a week! I got the truck's safety inspection successfully complete - after $340 which included new wiper blades (even though they worked just fine on our rainy two day drive here), a day time running light module(per Canadian specifications), labor for the module installation, and a kit for a child tether(per Canadian specifications). Other than that, the truck passed with flying colors. I ended up picking it up Wednesday after they did the inspection on Tuesday and did the installation on Wednesday. We managed to get it there and back with Jeremy's jeep WI plates (that expire this month). shhhhhh. I ended up making an appointment with Canadian Tire, because after more calls, realized it needed to pass the importation inspection. Jeremy and I dropped it off in Pembroke Wednesday evening and then he dropped me off at soccer. Kharren drove me back. I went back to Canadian Tire Thursday morning to drop off the keys and the two forms (one from customs, one we received finally via Jeremy's correct email - never received the one they mailed). At that time, they asked if I wanted to stay since it only took 10 minutes! And no one bothered to tell me this! Of course, I couldn't since I needed another driver to drive it back. Anyway, turns out this importation inspection is just a visual inspection to make sure the lights work, etc. So, later after Jeremy got home from work, we made a third trip to Canadian Tire to pick the truck up.

We then stopped at the MOT(DMV) in hope of having everything to get it licensed. Guess what? We didn't!!!! We had everything but one form stating the truck was gifted. This one form had to be partially filled out and notarized twice, by the recipient (Jeremy) and by the donor (Jeremy's mom). They would not accept the hand-written letter that Jeremy's mom had written and gotten notarized even though it said basically the same thing - minus her having written Jeremy's address on it. So, after about 20 minutes talking to the woman at the MOT, we drove home even more frustrated. We were able to fax Jeremy's mom the form so she could fill out her portion and get it notarized this morning and fax it back to us and the MOT. So, Jeremy decided to take half a day today so he could drive back to Pembroke with all the forms, stop at Services Ontario (only place the MOT would accept a notarization from), and then go back to the MOT. And....he was successful!!! He came home with the legal license plates! Whew! One big headache completed!

Also, today, I got a phone call bright and early from our landlord. After a very short conversation, I found out we can stay thru August, thru September, mostly likely thru October and maybe even into November! Wow! That will give us time to figure things out. We don't need to be on a panicky timeline of having a month to figure all this out. We've set up an appointment to meet with a realtor on Monday evening to view a few houses. But, hopefully now, we can really take our time, figure everything out and make the best decisions - based on the little we do know of our future plans.

I also got called into work today for what turned out to be 5 hours and was asked to come in tomorrow for 4. A couple more dollars in my pocket at least! They're also going to start me in millwork in the next two weeks so as the seasonal department dwindles down, I'll still (hopefully) be able to get some hours. I'll have a lot to learn, but hey, hopefully it'll be useful knowledge!

Jeremy's off to Arnprior tonight for hockey - and he's going to take the truck! He also has a game scheduled back there tomorrow morning. I guess I won't really see him until Saturday evening when I get done with work. I think he's planning on driving back tonight but won't get back until midnight or later. Hopefully we can hit the beach one of these days now that the sun's come back out and it's nice and warm and the Ottawa River has warmed up! I'm off to the gym when Jeremy leaves! A view of the things in the driveway - red jeep, canoe (behind the jeep), truck, green jeep and boat in the garage, oh, and of course, Hayde. Marilynn - I'm still hoping we'll be able to fit your rig in the driveway - and it's looking more likely that we'll still be here!
