Somehow it's been two weeks since I last posted something. I guess we've continued to be busy. Howard and Marilynne arrived Tuesday, August 24th. I got home and the command center had already found it's way into the driveway. Jeremy came home soon and while they were setting up the driveway, I went out for a warm 8 mile run.
After I got cleaned up, we sat down to a nice walleye dinner. Wednesday, Jeremy and I went off to work, but I came home around noon and picked up Howard and Marilynne and headed to Ottawa to pick up Carol from the airport. Her flight was slightly delayed and we ended up running into lots of construction so she ended up waiting for a bit, but we did end up finding her and headed back. She was suprised to see Howard and Marilynne since they had originally thought they'd get in the same day, but they came a day early. Jeremy then did up some kabobs on the grill and we had another nice (but late) dinner.
Thursday, we both headed off to work again and the Howard, Marilynne and Carol set out to see the sights of Petawawa. I headed off to running club in the evening for our hill workout, but no one ended up showing up so I came home and took Hayde for a short run thru the park and hit two hills there. We then headed off to dinner after I finished up. It was Howard and Marilynne's anniversary! We decided to try the Shanty House which we just recently discovered. I had run by it a couple weekends ago on my long run and had heard it was supposed to be good.

It sure was! They had lots of fish dishes and I had a good pasta dish. We listened to the desserts, but were pretty full, but somehow managed to try two. They had a tomato soup cake...weird, but it was excellent! It was really like a spice cake. We all dug into that! Marilynne also wanted to try a chocolate cake, but took that home.
Friday, I went to work. Jeremy had decided to take Friday and Monday off. He and Howard went out fishing. Carol and Marilynne decided to come up to Deep River to look around and check out some of the shops. We planned to meet at lunch and went to the little cafe, The Bean House, downtown. After I got home, we all took Hayde for a walk thru the Petawawa Terrace down the road.

I had to take some pictures of our flowers that started blooming. They are so pretty and have lots of colors. Just in time for visitors! I even got a rose to bloom! There's a few more rose buds coming so I'm excited for those to open.

We decided to grill for dinner and picked some of the corn from the garden! I was so excited that it worked. Some are small cobs, but we still got corn! And, it was delicous! The rest had grilled hotdogs to go with the corn.
We had also finished up the oil tank. Jeremy got the wood frame off and put some of the dirt back and finished painting the backside. Finally, one more needed project done! I also forgot to mention in my last post, we did get the roof finished! Jeremy had finished the ridges the other weekend while I was running. Just have to do a bit of caulking and it'll be 100% complete! We did finishe it before everyone arrived.

We decided to enjoy the super nice weather outside this night and ate outside then made a fire in the fire pit.
Saturday, we did a few errands around town and hung out at home. It started getting warm again - close to or above 90F! Jeremy took Howard out fishing and on their evening run, called on their way telling us there was a moose in the Petawawa River. We tried to rush out to see if it was still there and it was! We learned from another sightseer, that the Ministry had stopped earlier and looked at it thru as scope and realized it was sick with a brain disease that moose can get. They said they tend to stop eating and look for water and end up dying. Apparently he had come from the golf course across the river and had been there most of the day. He had only small stubs for antlers and apparently had bumps all over from the disease.
Sunday morning, when Jeremy and Howard went back out fishing, it was still there. We just heard recently, that the ministry did end up coming back at some point and put it down.
They had lots of luck catching catfish! We hadn't caught many before so this was a new fish to catch.
They did bring home some fish on all their fishing exursions. They ended up getting out 5 days I think, some morning and evening.
Meanwhile, Sunday morning I got up and Jodi and her husband, Steve, came over at 8 and we headed out for a run. We met up with Janice at 9am. A few miles later, we dropped Steve off and the three of us continued on. I managed 18 miles. It was a warm one too so thankfully we got it done early! Later in the day it got up to around 95F I think(in the shade!). We ended up sitting around the rest of the day. I refilled Hayde's pool(got rid of the squirrel that fell in) and Hayde had fun splashing around.
Carol and I made artichoke dip later and we all enjoyed that. Then, Jeremy headed off to hockey. When he came back, we made up some nachos and dug into those. Ummmm....Monday, I went off to work and Jeremy and Howard went out fishing. Later they all went into town for some more shopping. I had a chiropractor appointment in the evening and we all went into town for that. They stopped at the Bulk Store while I was at my appointment and then we went out for dinner in Pembroke.
Tuesday, Jeremy and I went to work. I think the others putzed around town and around the house. I had my longish run this night and it was really hot again so Carol and Marilynne were kind enough to drive alongside me with water. Thank you! It was so hot and dry, I was stopping every 3-5 blocks! I managed to get just over 7 miles in, in 61 minutes! Jeremy and Howard went out fishing again this night. We ordered pizza by the time they returned.
Jeremy took Carol to Ottawa at 5am Wednesday morning for her 8:20 flight. He then stopped back at home before going to work to say one final good-bye to Howard and Marilynne. I think we had a fairly relaxing evening Wednesday. Turns out we got a 1/2 day off of work on Friday, paid, as a thank you. They had gotten the reactor up and running again after 15 months or so since they found a leak last spring. The first isotopes were shipped out as well. This has been a big milestone at work since many many resources were used to get this reactor back online and the rest of us had to suffer with fewer resources. So, we got an early start to the long weekend. I ended up putting in about 5-5.5 hours Friday to get ready for an early meeting tomorrow morning. But it was still nice to have a little time off. Saturday, we decided to head to Ottawa since there was a gun/hunting show just outside of Ottawa and Jeremy's keeping his eyes open for a new gun. We didn't find anything there. We also stopped at a Mongolian Restaurant which turned out to be really good. I ended up making a spicey meal. We stopped at LeBarron's fishing and hunting store too. I was hoping I'd find a new rod...apparently, Howard had used mine for the first day, but got caught on the bottom and somehow my rod snapped... We didn't find the replacement, but found some other fishing lures instead. We also found the Irish and Scottish store that Lee had mentioned to us. Before heading back home we made a stop at Best Buy and the Hockey store so all in all, we had a fairly successful day. Later, we went over to Lee and Kharren's for dinner.
Sunday, I got up and headed out for my last LONG run! I managed about 22 miles(I accidently stopped my watch for about 1/4-1/2 mile). Jodi came with and we did a few miles before stopped for running club. We met Janice and Annalisa(the coach), but they were doing shorter and I wanted to test myself to see if I could pick up my pace so Jodi and I headed on ahead and stopped to pick up Steve. We managed about 10 miles before stopping back to drop him off and headed out for the last bit. I picked up my pace a bit and was definitely tired out by the time I finished!

Later, Jeremy and I went out fishing. I caught a nice big catfish!!!! I picked him up for the picture and he started vibrating and making squeeky noises....I realized he was meowing at me!!!!

Today, we struggled to get out of bed, but did eventually and headed back out on the river. I forgot to mention it really cooled off Saturday! Made it to about 60F! Today too, it was cold. I even wore my snowpants out this morning!
After being out for a bit, Jeremy fet a bit. Just as he felt a bit, I got stock on the bottom! So, I put my pole down to see what he got, but he was really struggling to pull his fish in and before long, he told me to check my pole before it goes overboard. Turned out I DID have a fish on! I eventually got mine in and it was another big catfish! I had to try to hurry to take care of this myself(usually Jeremy does for me!), and I finally manged to get the hook out. Jeremy meanwhile, somehow managed to get a few pictures while holding onto his pole and letting the fish wear itself out. This one also started vibrating and squeeking. Even Jeremy heard it this time. It was louder than the other one!
Here's the big fish Jeremy was wrestling with before getting it in the boat. We were a bit unsure how we were going to be able to land it!
We waited and waited for it to tire itself out! Hayde was anxious too!
But, we did finally managed to land it! I got it's head and half the body in the net and Jeremy grapped the back of the net to pull in the back end. Of course as soon as we got in over the boat, the hook came out(we don't know how the hook stayed in for this long as it was very lightly hooked), and it started flopping around so I tried to tie it down with the net...
Finally, Jeremy got it picked up so I could get some pictures. It was a MONSTER!!!! Probably the biggest northern he's caught!
Of course, we wanted to weigh it and measure it...

We napped the rest of the afternoon and now I see it's 10:30 so I MUST get to bed. Busy day tomorrow.....
