Fishing/Hunting
Somehow it's managed not to rain too much this weekend and today's turned out to be a really nice day and the sun is mostly out! As you can see below, it's rained quite a bit (basically since Jeremy's family left), and we can actually get the boat in the water. Howard, you'll probably notice what a difference this is. We usually back the truck up until the water's at the back door and the boat is at the end of the dock and we still had to manually push the boat on/off. We got out Saturday morning, in the cold. We headed to our usually spot, and the current was strong. No fish, so we opted to try trolling for northern. Jeremy got on in our usual northern spot. We headed back in since we were cold.
We cleaned up the yard a bit after that. I moved all my potted plants inside since we're supposed to get frost and sub-zero (celsius) temperatures overnight. Here's my new inside garden.
And, the mostly empty garden outside. My mum's are doing quite well and several weekends ago, Jeremy took the corn stalks out and did them up around the bird feeder and a few bunches by the back door. The wild flowers on the side of the house are still doing well.
I've cut a few roses to bring inside to enjoy them. I love these colors and hope this rose bush will come back next year.
Later in the afternoon, we headed out to the creek leading to Mud Lake to duck hunt in the canoe. The sun poked out a little bit, but we also got sprinkled on and temps had warmed up more than we figured.
We only saw two birds on our way down the creek. By the time we got more into the open spots, we saw some more and Jeremy managed to get one.
We paddled up just a little further and scared up two more and Jeremy got one of those. Hayde jumped from the canoe as soon as Jeremy shot. We'll have to work with her to wait an extra few seconds before jumping out.
We paddled in just a little bit more and then stopped and had to turn around since we didn't have enough room to make it thru the weeds to the lake. One our return we scared up another pair.
The second bird flew down the creek a little bit and then we were able to get that one as well.
This year, we only had to manuever over 4 dams instead of 8. The creek was full of fallen leaves and weeds though so it still made it tough to paddle through. We got back with a very dirty Hayde.
Four teals in the end, a tired Hayde and hungry Jeremy and Maya. We got back to the car just as the sun was starting to set so we had somehow managed to time this trip well.
Jeremy did get three times this week out Barron Canyon road. I didn't go with and had the house to myself! He got a mallard one of the nights and was able to scout around a bit.
