The Rabbit Hole

We've had another busy week and somehow haven't made it to the gym other than on Monday and we even canceled tennis on Monday too! On Tuesday, Hayde and I headed out for a longer run, but it was warm and Jeremy and I had things we wanted to do and I forgot water so we cut it a bit short and compensated for doing a fast run. We managed 4.5 miles I think. I came home to Jeremy axing out the roots on the stump. I stayed out with him digging the roots out, and of course finding more to uncover. (sorry-somehow the following picture wouldn't rotate)

Jeremy axed and axed and I dug and dug. Eventually, we thought we had most of the big roots cut, but the stump would not budge. We even tried lifting it with a jack, but couldn't get it to budge much either. So, we decided tie it up to the truck and see if that would loosen it. With two 100 foot long ropes tied around and around it, Jeremy rocked it back and forth and eventually it started to give. Hayde and I stayed up on the deck for this. It finally came loose, but got stuck in the big hole we created and was not going to make it's way out. By this time, we had worked on it for 2 to 2 1/2 hours and it was getting dark so we decided to clean up and head inside.
Yesterday, we didn't get any more work done on it. I took Hayde out for a quick run, then had a dinner gathering with some people from work at Kelsey's, a nearby "sports" restaurant. We were celebrating all our hard work from year-end. Meanwhile, Jeremy somehow managed to get the boat out of the shed and around the tree sitting in front of the shed doors.

Today, I went to running club with Hayde for a pretty good hill workout. We went to the park I usually got to. Hayde did a great job. I've taken her several times with me now to running club. We do a hill workout on Thursdays and a long run on Sundays. Most times, it's just been Janice and I but today there were two others. They didn't mind her coming with and she did a great job and helped motivate us up the hill. Upon my return, Jeremy had been able to tie the stump back up to the truck, this time with thicker cables. He was able to get the stump out of the hole.
The big pile of wood we now have from the dead tree that we've piled in the back yard next to the little shed in the corner of the lot. Lots of really good fire wood!
We then proceeded to take the stones we had dug out of the flower bed in front of the house and managed to put together a nice looking fire pit, embedded into the ground. A good use for the big hole that was left from the tree!
We had picked up a fire permit at town hall last week and Jeremy's now filled that out. Once we turn it in, the fire chief will have to come out and inspect our pit to make sure it meets all requirements (distance from combustibles, correct dimensions, etc). Once it passes inspection, we'll be able to have fires. Below, our newly "renovated" opened up back yard.
The big ceder standing in front of the shed that's attached to the garage that's sitting right in front of the doors in which we get the boat in and out. We had about and inch to spare on either side when we get the boat in or out, hence the reason we've been debating taking the tree down or not.
The rest of the back yard that's hidden from view - and some nice big lilac trees!

Now, maybe we can take some time to get out fishing since walleye fishing will be open on Saturday....
