OUR Garden & Boating

We had another full week. We are no longer playing tennis since Byron got a new job in Toronto and Danielle tore her hamstring playing soccer. However, we did have them over for dinner on Tuesday since Byron was moving on Thursday. We finally got to have a fire in our new fire pit! We made kabobs and I made the really good artichoke dip we got from Nate. Danielle brought pasta salad and home made cookies and Byron brought another salad. Lee came over for a bit after we ate to hang out around the fire. Somehow the time flew by and it was 10:30!

The rest of the week we worked on the yard/garden. Jeremy picked up some trellises and wood for a mini fence we wanted to put in front of the flower garden. We got the trellises put in Monday and got some of the plants in. He continued working on the fence and painting it the rest of the week. I also finally got my tomatoes and peppers planted in the garden one night as well. Yesterday, Jeremy finished up the fence and we got it put in.

My herbs are in the pots surrounding the garden. Jeremy's been able to pick some strawberries in the last couple of days and I've had a few as well. They are pretty darn good! My tomatoes and peppers are starting to flower and I got some stakes in to hold my peas upright.
This weekend, we picked up a trellis for the grapes. We had gotten the raspberries, blackberries and blueberries moved behind the garage and today I finally got the grapes moved. We're waiting patiently for the blueberries to ripen. They look better and better each day.
Today, Jeremy got the lawn fully mowed and I'd have to say the yard is finally starting to come alive and look like a yard. I'm hoping we can get the top off the bed of the truck and pick up a truck load of mulch for the flower garden and berries. Then, we want to through some wild flower seeds along the side of the house where the grapes were and then we'll finally be done with the yard. Then.... on to the hot tub(maybe this coming week) and to the roof!
We also got a few more quotes on roofing prices over the weekend. It looks like materials only will be about 4-5 thousand. Let's hope the wood underneath will be ok, but we're fearing the worst. Then, we have some other smaller projects, but we'll have to see about some of those.
Today, we got out in the boat somehow early and headed off to fish for a bit. We tried across from the boat landing, but didn't have as much luck as we had the last time. I did end up snagging a little baby walleye in the belly. We then headed east towards the light house, but again, didn't have any luck. So, we decided to move on. We made plans with Marnie to stop by her and Jason's place. We putted up since the river is really low and it's only a couple of feet way out from their house. We finally found it and got in as far as we could. Jason was out in the water with Bean and Copper so he pulled us in a bit. We had a really nice visit with them hanging out on their front deck in the sun chatting while the dogs could run around. It was a perfect day to be out, probably in the 80s and nice and sunny. The dogs all had fun splashing in the water for a bit and tired themselves out. Bean and Copper laid down to nap, but Hayde wouldn't have it and hung out with us. We timed it and it's about a 20 minute boat ride (upriver) to their place and it's a good 40 minute drive by car so boating's definitely the way to go.

Well, it's almost 9:30 and we've been trying to get up early to run in the mornings(yes, all THREE of us) so we'll see if we can keep that up this week. I still have to finish the laundry and get all the sweat and dirt off me before I get to bed. I'm sure all three of us will sleep well tonight!
We are still hearing about more layoffs and there's many rumors going around about a possible single swipe, but it's also likely there'll be several more small 30-40 layoffs a round. I guess we'll just have to see. We're keeping optimistic as Jeremy's one of a small group of actual research people and my group has TONS of work (we were hoping to hire about 13 new people this year, but not sure we'll get any!) with a 70 year plan to decommission many, many buildings on site.
