Here's the strawberry garden! We're going to have TONS of strawberries coming soon. Some are just starting to turn. You wouldn't believe the # of flowers there were! Anyone?!?!? You must come visit to get home grown strawberries! This is an 8'x16' garden of strawberries!
Today, we (maybe I should say Jeremy), dug out the grass behind the rose trellis and around the honeysuckle and spirea. We edged it and put in mulch. It's looking SO much better. The honeysuckle is just starting to bloom. I have to add, we've got lots of hummingbirds too. They're going to love our yard...with the feeders, honeysuckle and soon the wildflowers will be tall and blooming. You can see all the brown areas that I hope to get lots of grass seed down and fill in with grass. I also had to add a new climbing rose since one didn't make it over the winter. Another one got a really slow start, I feared it didn't make it either, but it's proved me wrong. Our yard's gone from a would-be campsite look to a luxurious lush green, blooming gardens and yard! It's improving everyday.
I just noticed that the pine tree (see trunk in picture below) is dead. The needles way up on top are brown. I'm so sad - not really. Looks like it'll HAVE to come down. So, we're thinking about cutting the two in front down. The other one is really sad and grew crooked anyway. That'll be another project later in the future for us. But, without the pine trees, the grass will have a chance to grow and we'll probably plant another tree in their place.
Well, onto the dreaded project. Jeremy got the hall closets sanded (again) today. We had put the cabinet kit "paint" on it, then decided we did not want to do that. He got one of the top doors stained and clear coated and we're pleased with it so we'll have to dig in before too long and start all the rest. I keep meaning to take a picture of the boards we've tested again and again, but I keep forgetting. I also added another picture of our kitchen as it stands(stood for the last couple of weeks). We've tried one of the doors and a couple of the drawers. Jeremy also managed to get the other little countertop in and we got smaller wheels for our little cart so we could fit it underneath the countertop (like we had planned over a year ago) and still be able to pull it out for extra countertop space. Notice the little ledge at the back we had to build so the countertop would fit over the cart and still fit with the fridge and stove. It's quite nice having it to store the salt/pepper and little bottles of oil. We're contemplating replacing the yellowish glass in the middle cupboard with a stainglass piece or something if we can ever decide what image to do. I can't wait to get it all done - I know it's going to look amazing and so much better!
We did manage to get out fishing twice this weekend, between the rain. We went back to the mouth of the Petawawa river yesterday afternoon for a bit. I caught a sauger and a really nice perch. We brought those home. Jeremy caught a smaller perch. Today, we went out for a little bit, but we watched a heavy rain approach, so decided it was time to get off the water. Jeremy caught a walleye that we brought back.
Also, we took Hayde in to the vet last week to get tested for heartworm. They only test every 2 or 3 years here, unlike WI, but they also tested her for Lime disease. We got a call yesterday from the vet, herself, saying Hayde tested postive for Lime. We have to take her back in tomorrow to get another blood test to determine how much is circulating in her bloodstream. Depending on that, it depends if she goes on antibiotics or not. I guess this isn't a huge suprise, since she's always out and about running around the woods and such. I hope it's not too bad. She hasn't presented with any symptoms that I've noticed so we shall see. Poor pup!
Last bit, I managed 17 miles today. Much slower than last week and a bit more than I had wanted to do, but it still felt pretty good. It's amazing(I always amaze myself!), how "easy" this is....but that's after doing this distance 3 or 4 times in the last several months and as long as you build up, it's certainly do-able. When I first start out after not running for a while, it seems impossible. I'm very pleased with myself how well my training is going this time and that I've managed to overcome so many small nagging injuries. I'm still having feet issues with my planter fascitis, but I'm managing, thanks to my socks I made and my golf ball. I'm trying really hard to eat well and get enough sleep....so on that note, it's 9:30 and I MUST say goodnight and get to bed. I know I'm lacking a bit on sleep, so I have to try even harder to get to bed earlier.
