Outtings

Jeremy and I had to work Thursday, although I did make it home by early afternoon. The clan and I ate lunch and then took a drive up to Deep River. We took the road thru the Petawawa Research Forest, past the info station and then on to Chalk River so Carol, Marilynne and Howard could see the booming town of Chalk River. We did pass the Chalk River and had a quick view of Corry Lake on the way. We then drove out along Wylie Road and past Leader Road which is where there is a house with 200 acres we saw online last summer when we were looking at moving here that Jeremy was intrigued by. Of course, all we could see were trees, but at least Carol could see the area. We stopped in downtown Deep River and did some shopping in the two blocks of downtown. We managed to pass a couple hours and soon realized Jeremy would be home soon and would be hungry for dinner (which we hadn't made). So, we drove home and realized he hadn't arrived yet. We ended up making all the walleye that was in the freezer AND, the spice that his mom had sent us turned out to be pretty good, even if it's not quite what Jeremy had wanted. After dinner, Jeremy, Howard and I took the truck back into town to see what we could do with the red jeep since it was still sitting in Home Depot's parking lot. When we got there, I tried it again and of course, it wouldn't start so Jeremy pulled the truck up in front of the jeep to jump it. First, he checked the battery with the voltmeter and it read 12V so we knew the battery was ok. Next, he tried taping on the starter since Howard thought there was a way to do that to it to make it start. With a few tries of tapping it, somehow we did manage to get it to turn over, without having to jump it! So, I quickly got in, had Jeremy follow me and we headed home, and made it. Later in the evening, we took Carol out on the Millennium path that heads out towards the hwy and over the Petawawa River. It started sprinkling so we didn't get too far. We enjoyed some more of our homemade kit wine before calling it a night.

Friday, I didn't have to work. I got up, took Hayde for a run/swim and called Napa to see if they had a 1994 jeep starter. They didn't so I asked if he could check to see if Pembroke did and they did so he had it someone bring it to town here. Once everyone was up and ready, we took a quick walk a few blocks down our road to the town hall to check where Howard could do a dump of the motor home. Upon our return, we headed over to the Terrace Provincial Park in town which will be a three block walk from our new house. We did the larger loop on top of the bluff and of course had Hayde with too. We were all amazed at how quiet it was in there. Very few birds or squirrels chirping. We headed home afterwards for lunch. Carol and Marilynne headed down the road to a fish n' chips place and brought it back.

Before long, Kharren stopped over so her and I could head out past Chalk River to the company picnic that was being put on for Jeremy and Lee's department at work. On our way, we stopped to pick up the starter for the jeep. It turned out to be a very hot afternoon, but I think we all had a good time. I got to met some more people that Jeremy works with that I had heard about day after day so that was nice to put faces to more names. While we were there, Carol, Howard and Marilynne headed into Pembroke to find a place to eat dinner. They enjoyed a good meal then drove thru the rest of town to sight see before coming home. Kharren, Lee and Khartem stopped over later and we played cards into the night.

Today, Jeremy took the clan out on the Ottawa River to take them up to AECL where he works. That's about the only view anyone can get of the place since the road to it is gated and it's hiding behind a 10 minute drive past the gate and thru the woods. In the meantime, I took Hayde to the beach on the point where the boat landing is since the boat is too small to fit more than 4, 3 comfortably. I sent them with my camera this time so hopefully they'll come home with some good pictures I can post. I'll have to grab some more from Marilynne and post them later as well. I also stopped at the grocery store so we can make our yummmy pizza tonight for them to try.

More pictures to come!
