We made a trip into Pembroke Saturday to do some errands. We got six photos of ourselves to include in our permanent resident application. We had gotten three done a few months ago, but they've since changed the instructions and now require six each. We then did some shopping and picked up some more cheese cloth, paper coffee filters and a plastic coffee filter with a soft mesh strainer. Why? We decided we should try to strain our wine some more. Afterwards, we made a quick stop at Canadian Tire since Jeremy had seen an add for stainless steel pots and pans for 1/2 off. We checked them out and they turned out to be a set he had looked at in Consumer Reports and seemed satisfied with them so we picked them up. We then made a quick stop at The Bulk Barn since we were out of popcorn and some other things. Somehow we can never leave this store without spending more money than we plan. However, we now have a good stash of gummies. We also had to stop at the LCBO for wine since we have no alcoholic wine (and gin) yet.
Once we got home, unloaded and putzed around a bit, I took Hayde for a quick run (it was cold again, ~3F) and then we headed off to the gym. Upon returning, we called Lee and Kharren and they decided to come over to watch the AllStar hockey stuff along with Khartem while we worked on our wine. We had bottled our grape batch of wine Friday night (Jeremy didn't have hockey) and originally got four bottles of this. Saturday night, we were able to strain all our bottles of grape wine and one bottle of raspberry. We have three bottles of grape after straining. They now look pretty clear and we can see thru the bottles. Our kit wine was also ready to start bubbling so we got that siphoned out of the bucket and into the jug to bubble. It had finally reached under 1.01 on the hydrometer. In the meantime, we had to do some taste testing. We decided to try adding some gin to this non-alcoholic wine as it was a suggestion my mom had. Turned out to be pretty good. At least it's drinkable even if it doesn't have any alcohol. Check out more pictures under my "Hobby Photos" link. I'm having trouble adding pictures today for some reason. I can't place them where I want to so I'm just adding the one.
Today, Jeremy re-typed and updated his resume. Somehow in the move, he lost all his job searching information and contacts other than for the Argonne, Kapl and AECL jobs. While he was doing that, I was reading some of my running stuff and preparing myself for my run today. Turns out, I am behind schedule. I finally started looking at what my schedule should be and realized I should be at least up to 7 miles by this weekend. Ops. Thankfully, I figured catching up is going to be possible, just a bit tiring. So, this afternoon, Hayde and I went out for our longest run yet. I was remembering the last time I did do a marathon it was just over two years ago and she was only a few months old so I couldn't run with her yet and the other years, I had only done halfs so I didn't need to hit such high milages. Somehow, I miss-calculated our distance today and we ended up doing 7.7 miles (9F-12F). Whew! It was long, but not as bad as I thought. I'm trying really hard (well, ok, maybe it's not too hard with all the snow and really cold temps) to stick to a slow pace or lower heart rate when I do these long and easy runs as I know I would do them too fast in the past. Took us an hour and 22 minutes, but again, the footing isn't very good with the sidewalks completely snow covered, bumpy and sloped. I'm feeling really good about how we did today as we bumped it up 2.4 miles. As soon as we got in the door, Hayde ran immediately for her frisbee and ran back out the door to play. I don't understand how she can still have sooo much energy after all this! We played for a little bit until I got cold and she's finally settled down and is now sleeping. She should sleep really well tonight and hopefully be calmer tomorrow.
I think that's about all I have to catch up on. Still working hard on getting resumes out and looking for openings. Jeremy's going to be off to hockey tonight and I have to finish the laundry and hopefully have a chance to sit down and relax my legs.
Update Monday morning: I just officially registered for the Ottawa Marathon so let's hope the weather cooperates for me so I can continue doing all my workouts outside and I stay healthy and can stay motivated and do all my workouts the way they're ment to be done. I'm still hopeful I have a chance of qualifying for Boston again so I can run it the way it's deserved to be run which is my ultimate goal. Wish me luck for the next four months as I train...
